WE LIKE TO READ / THE HIGH STREET BY ALICE MELVIN

Last Christmas all three of my kiddos were really lucky in the books department and got some excellent ones to add to their (slightly out of control) collection! I'm really glad that all three of them love getting a good book and settling down with it. Dexter has just finished the Tom Gates series and is eagerly awaiting more, and Florence is all about Captain Underpants at the moment, having just finished the Clarice Bean paperbacks (which are awesome!). Little India is currently obsessed with The High Street by Alice Melvin and to say we read it a lot is an understatement!

The book follows Sally, who has to visit a collection of shops along the high street in order to tick items off of her list, whilst noticing interesting things going on inside each of them. It's perfect for toddlers - lift the flap, lots of repetition, beautiful detailed illustrations, rhyme. There's a lovely little subtle message at the end and   a reminder of all some of those shops that are sadly vanishing from the traditional high street.

It's cute, we love it!

  5. I'm 23 years old, have no children, and I want this book! The illustrations are beautiful, and I love the story concept. Plus a good book is a good book, no matter how old you are, right?
